Reading

We use a programme called Power of Reading as the basis for our English curriculum. It combines the best teaching approaches to explore high quality texts in depth, enhance reading comprehension and provide meaningful contexts and purposes for writing.

Children hear high quality texts read to them at least once every day. 

Our individual reading books are carefully selected and oraganised to ensure children have the opportunity apply their phonics. They are organised into coloured 'bands'. We aim to listen to children read individually twice a week in school.

Children need lots of practise to improve their decoding and fluency. We encourage parents to listen to their children read every day.
